President

Cordell Reid is a senior electrical engineering major at the University of Maryland College Park. Cordell has been a member of BES and NSBE since 2009. Aside from being a member of BES, Cordell is a member of IEEE. He is a member of the University Honors Program. This year, Cordell served as treasurer during the 2010-2011 school year. As president, Cordell hopes to empower the membership to become leaders in their chapter. He especially wants to develop the skills of freshmen and help them to excel in their majors. Cordell wants to keep strong ties with the chapter’s corporate sponsors in order to ensure that students and employers make the most of their partnership. Cordell is committed to the enhancement of precollege programs and recruiting the next generation of engineers. He is working with the programs zone to develop new and innovative academic and professional programs. Cordell was a participant in the LSAMP summer research program and the Summer Bridge Program of for Scientists and Engineers. He has interned at the US Army Research Laboratory and plans to ultimately get his PhD and start a research company.

 Vice President
Jamal Monger is a senior Electrical Engineering major at the University of Maryland, College Park. For the 2010-2011 school year Jamal served, as academic excellence chair where he pioneered the organization’s online test bank and headed tutoring sessions for freshman students. This year as Vice President Jamal is excited about reaching out to minority students and encouraging them to pursue and finish technical degrees. In doing this ,Jamal specifically aims to increase membership in the chapter and forge ties between other minority engineering organizations. His biggest focus this year is increasing the overall chapter academic performance because he believes, no matter how large your commitment is to your organization; your efforts are pointless unless you are able to be academically excellent. Jamal is interested in the energy side of electrical engineering and he has had several internships with BGE/Constellation Energy, throughout his college career.

Secretary

Dorcas Olawuni is a senior, Civil and Environmental Engineering Major with focus in Infrastructure. She is attempting a minor in Second Language Education. She has been involved in BES and NSBE for two years now and has been a member of the National Society of Scholars since freshman year. This year, Dorcas is looking forward to broadcasting the opportunities of BES and NSBE to young students who are unsure of their future and also to increase membership. One day, she would like to travel to other countries to explore and if possible, work in the construction environment.
